One night at the Han-River
A couple of days prior, my friend Corey invited me to go “camping”. At first we wanted to stay at an actual camping site, specifically Nanji – the spot where we used to have our annual South African Braai. However, to our disappointment, the camping site was fully booked, so we resorted to Yeouido Park.
At 5:00pm we departed from Uni and arrived at the river around 40mins later, after a ridiculously long transfer (in terms of walking) at Jongro-3-Ga station – It’s a big station.
Yeouido is arguably the most popular river side park in Seoul – thousands of people go chill by the river there during summer. Loads of skates, cyclists and dancers can be found there making most of the day.
Me and my mates however, went there for the purpose of chilling and having a good time and socialising one last time, before everyone departs to different parts of the world – quite sad.
For some reason we thought it will be a good idea to bring tents.. Thankfully didn’t take more than 5 minutes to set up.

Another massive phenomenon is that it’s immensely popular within the Korean Youth to have 치맥 (Chicken & Beer) at the river. This is all made easy thanks to the efficient delivery services of Korea. You can literally order food over the phone from wherever you sit by the river and they’ll deliver. You don’t even have to worry about knowing who to call and what to order beforehand – as you leave the train station, you’ll be surrounded by ladies handing out pamphlets with a huge variety of foods.

We chilled by the river till about 11pm, playing Uno and enjoying each other’s company, when we decided to pack up and take the last train back home. It was a genuinely awesome evening! Loved every second of it!
Peace out! 🙂
